Music.

Back in the day, music was all about live performance. And when I say “back in the day”, I mean back during the Renaissance. If you wrote down your music, others would steal it.

One example of this was François Couperin, a French Baroque composer. Like many composers (or musicians in general), Couperin wasn’t the richest guy out there. He only published music when he needed the cash.

I remember when I took a Digital Media Productions class in High School, when we had to make videos and add music, that we used a site called KillerTracks.com. This site had music that we could use (without getting a copyright strike) and there were thousands, maybe millions of different tracks available.

A site I found not long ago called, FreeSound.org. Based on my searching and exploring on the site, it seems that people can upload their own sounds or tracks that people can use. I saw a lot of sound effects that could be useful for a movie or video and that one voice actress was even taking requests.

How has the sharing and making of music changed?
